Ten Filipinos have safely returned to the country from Cambodia after being repatriated, following their victimization by fraudulent online job offers.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the repatriates were rescued from Oddar Meanchey Province in the northwestern part of Cambodia through the assistance of local authorities and the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh.
The DFA confirmed that the individuals were clear victims of human trafficking. The agency issued a warning to the public to remain vigilant when applying for jobs found online.
The DFA also emphasized that its office remains open to provide support, particularly through its Assistance-to-Nationals service, especially for Filipino online job seekers who may find themselves in distress abroad.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia expressed gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its prompt action and support in ensuring the safe return of the affected Filipinos.
