ILOILO CITY – A 61-year-old woman died after a Toyota Fortuner SUV collided with a tricycle carrying vegetables to the Iloilo Terminal Market.

The victim, identified as Delia (not her real name), was a resident of Zone 1, Barangay Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City.

According to Patrolman Kem John Pendon, a traffic investigator from the Iloilo City Traffic Enforcement Unit, the tricycle, driven by a man identified as “Yanyan,” was carrying five passengers and was heading toward Iloilo Terminal Market when the accident happened.

Initial investigation revealed that the tricycle was traveling from Barangay Zone 1, Balantang, Jaro, Iloilo City, toward Iloilo City Proper when the SUV, which was moving in the same direction, crashed into it.

The 18-year-old SUV driver claimed he was driving at a speed of 60-70 kph but admitted that he miscalculated his speed, which prevented him from braking in time.

Authorities also found that he had obtained his driver’s license less than a year ago.

Meanwhile, four other passengers of the tricycle sustained minor injuries.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
