The negotiations between the Iloilo City Government and Metro Pacific Water Investment Corporation for the establishment of a waste-to-energy project in the city have been successful.
Among those present in the ceremonial signing were Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas and former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary and current president of the corporation, Rogelio Singson.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Mayor Treñas stated that part of this project involves setting up facilities at the Calajunan Sanitary Landfill, which has a limited lifespan.
According to Treñas, this project will not only provide a solution to the city’s waste problem but also contribute to the economic development.
The mayor also explained that the aforementioned promoted project will go through the process outlined in the Public-Private Partnership ordinance of the city.
This will involve a Swiss challenge where third parties will have the opportunity to submit better proposals for the project, thus avoiding excessive costs.
Interested bidders must submit their intentions within 15 days after the second advertisement or publication.
In this regard, Treñas assured the company that their water supply services in the city will not be affected.
