Iloilo City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Western Visayas has issued a strong reminder to the public to purchase fireworks only from legitimate stores in preparation for the New Year’s celebrations.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo Iloilo, Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office 6, urged the public to avoid buying fireworks from stores that do not display an authorized permit. This precaution is necessary to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
Solis emphasized that combating the illegal sale of fireworks, especially on online platforms, will be a major challenge. To address this, the Civil Security Group and Anti-Cybercrime Group have been tasked with monitoring and regulating online sellers of illegal fireworks to minimize potential risks.
He also reminded consumers to ensure that the fireworks they purchase bear the Philippine Standard (PS) Mark. This certification guarantees that the products have undergone the proper safety processes and have received the necessary permits from local authorities.
