𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 – The much-anticipated opening of the newly developed public markets in Iloilo City will be delayed, with completion now expected in 2025.
This is a reversal of the promise made by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, who previously stated that the markets would be finished by December 2024.
According to Maricel Mabaquiao, Head of the Local Economic Enterprise Office, the Mandurriao Public Market, the first to be developed, is only 80% complete. It is now expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2025.
Meanwhile, the first phase of construction at the Arevalo district market has been completed. Phase 1 of the Jaro and La Paz markets is also expected to finish by the first quarter of 2025.
Phase 1 refers to the basic skeletal structures of the markets, including roofing, windows, and doors.
Additionally, the Iloilo Terminal Market and Iloilo Central Market are now expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
