The House Committee on Labor and Employment, led by Rep. Fidel Nograles, has approved a measure that mandates a P200 across-the-board wage increase for workers in the private sector.
During a committee hearing today, the House panel passed a substitute bill for House Bills 514, 756, 7871, and 10319, all of which are proposals aimed at implementing a wage increase.
Under the proposed “P200 Daily Across-the-Board Wage Increase Act,” all employers in the private sector, whether agricultural or non-agricultural, and regardless of the size of the business or the number of employees, will be required to pay an additional P200 to their workers.
The bill also stipulates penalties for employers who fail to comply. Any individual, corporation, trust, firm, partnership, association, or entity found violating the law could face fines ranging from P50,000 to P100,000 or imprisonment for two to four years.
Furthermore, employers will be required to compensate workers with double the amount of any unpaid benefits.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be responsible for crafting the implementing rules and regulations for this law.
This move is expected to provide financial relief to millions of private sector workers across the country.
