Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, best known for her role as Shan Cai in the hit drama Meteor Garden, has tragically passed away at 48.
She died from pneumonia, a complication of the flu, during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Her sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed the heartbreaking news through her agent, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. Dee shared, “We were all together in Japan, and my dear, kindhearted sister Barbie passed away from influenza-induced pneumonia.
She has left us.” She also expressed her gratitude for the time spent with Barbie, saying, “I will always be grateful to her and miss her!”
Barbie is survived by her South Korean husband, DJ Koo Jun-yup, and their two children—a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, whom she had with her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
Barbie’s portrayal of the strong-willed San Cai made her an icon, and her sudden passing has left fans mourning the loss of a beloved star.
