Senate President Chiz Escudero assured the public that the Senate will handle the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte with utmost fairness and transparency.

He emphasized that the Senate’s duty is not to convict or acquit, but to ensure that justice is served.

“Our job is to ensure that the process is credible, believable, and trusted by the public,” Escudero said. “We are committed to making sure she is given justice.”

The impeachment trial’s start date remains pending after the articles of impeachment were officially submitted to the Senate on February 5.

Escudero also pointed out that the Senate must be in session for the impeachment court to convene and rejected calls for a special session, citing no legal grounds for such a request.

The Senate President’s statement highlights the commitment to a fair, impartial, and transparent impeachment process as the proceedings continue to unfold.
