The Philippine Senate has started preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, following an order from Senate President Chiz Escudero.
Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed the issuance of Senate Special Order 2025-015, which sets the administrative framework for the proceedings.
The order designates the Senate Secretary as the Clerk of Court, granting key responsibilities under the Rules of Procedure on Impeachment Trials.
As Clerk of Court, Bantug will oversee non-judicial functions, including documentation, issuance of notices and summons, court calendar management, administration of oaths, and security supervision.
The order also assigns roles to key Senate offices.
The Office of the Senate Legal Counsel, the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Legislation, and the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms are tasked with ensuring a smooth and orderly trial.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary for Administrative and Financial Services will handle budget coordination, supplies, and logistical support.
These preparations underscore the Senate’s readiness to proceed with the impeachment trial, marking a crucial political development in the country.
