Iloilo Medical Society expresses its strong support for Dr. Joseph Dean L. Nicolo, Medical Center Chief II of the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC). We have learned of his reassignment to the Labuan General Hospital.
While we recognize the prerogative of the Department of Health in matters of personnel movement, we cannot help but raise serious concerns regarding the timing, reason, and justification of this decision.
Dr. Nicolo is an effective and dedicated leader at WVMC, demonstrating competence, vision, and compassion in his role as Medical Center Chief.
Under his stewardship, the institution has sustained its mandate providing quality healthcare services, ensuring efficiency in operations, and upholding the highest standards of patient care.
His performance is nothing short of exemplary, earning the trust and respect of his colleagues, staff, and the wider medical community.
At this critical time when WVMC continues to address the pressing health needs of the people of Western Visayas, we firmly believe that continuity in leadership is essential.
The sudden transfer of Dr. Nicolo disrupts not only the ongoing programs and initiatives he has effectively instituted but also affects the morale of the medical staff who look to him for guidance and stability.
In view of these considerations, the Iloilo Medical Society respectfully but strongly urge the concerned authorities to reconsider this decision in the best interest of WVMC, its patients, and the entire health system of Western Visayas.
