Nag-uwi ng apat na pangunahing parangal ang Ilonggo film na “Tumandok” sa prestihiyosong 48th Gawad Urian Awards na ginanap sa De La Salle University noong Oktubre 11.
Ginawaran bilang “Pinakamahusay na Direktor” sina Richard Jeroui Salvadico at Arlie Sweet Sumagaysay.
Nasungkit rin ng pelikula ang mga parangal na Best Supporting Actor para sa yumaong si G. Felipe Ganancial, Best Screenplay para kina Arden Rod Condez at Sumagaysay, at Best Music para kay Paulo Almaden at “The Ati People of Kabarangkalan and Nagpana.”
Sa kanilang talumpati, inialay ng mga direktor ang tagumpay sa komunidad ng Ati sa Sitio Kabarangkalan, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo, na siyang sentro ng kwento ng pelikula. Lubos din ang pasasalamat nila sa buong production crew na nagsikap upang maipreserba ang kwento ng komunidad na nagtiwala sa kanila.
Sa mensahe ni Sumagaysay, binigyang-diin niya ang kahalagahan ng pagpapalaganap ng respeto at cultural sensitivity.
“Let us use our platforms and privileges to help build a future where fear no longer exists, and where more Indigenous Peoples’ community are given a chance not just to survive, but to live and to dream,” pahayag ni Sumagaysay. “This award, alongside Tumandok, will always remind us that filmmaking is a privilege and a responsibility.”
Samantala, sa talumpati ni Salvadico, tinalakay niya ang isyu ng korapsyon. Ayon sa kanya, kung hindi lamang ninanakaw ang pondo, maaari sanang gamitin ito upang mapabuti ang buhay ng mga katutubong pamayanan.
“This award belongs as much to them, as it does to us,” pahayag nito. “But this recognition also reminds us of what is missing. Recently, corruption has made headlines — stolen billions that could have built roads and schools, and secured land titles for the indigenous people. Instead, they are forced to walk miles to learn while they deserve the dignity of dreaming and learning in their own land.”
Matatandaang ang “Tumandok,” na tampok ang mga Ati bilang mga cast, ay humakot din ng mga parangal tulad ng Best Film, Best Original Music Score, Best Screenplay, at NETPAC Full-Length Feature Award sa 20th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.#
