A jetliner from American Airlines caught fire upon landing at Denver International Airport on Thursday, according to dramatic images circulating on social media.

The aircraft, which had been diverted to Denver due to engine trouble, safely landed before flames became visible, as confirmed by statements from both the airline and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported by local media.

“All 172 passengers and six crew members safely deplaned and are being relocated to the terminal,” American Airlines stated in a release published by Denver broadcaster KDVR.

The FAA, American Airlines, and Denver International Airport have yet to respond to requests for further comment.

The incident comes amid growing safety concerns in U.S. aviation, following a string of recent mishaps and discussions on cost-cutting measures within aviation agencies.

The flight was originally en route from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth before being forced to divert.

Videos widely shared online showed thick smoke surrounding the aircraft, with passengers seen standing on a wing as emergency responders arrived at the scene.
