Nairobi, Kenya – At least 16 people have been killed and more than 400 others injured in violent clashes between police and protesters in Kenya, according to local reports.

The unrest erupted amid growing calls for President William Ruto to step down, with demonstrators accusing his administration of committing human rights violations. Protesters took to the streets in large numbers, demanding accountability and political change.

Tensions escalated when some protesters attempted to storm the presidential residence. However, they were thwarted by heavy police presence. Law enforcement also deployed barricades around key government buildings to prevent protesters from advancing.

In a public statement, President Ruto urged citizens to end the demonstrations, warning that continued unrest could destabilize the nation.

Despite the government’s appeal for calm, public anger appears to be mounting, as critics accuse the administration of stifling dissent and failing to address the root causes of the protests.

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, but civil rights groups are calling for an independent investigation into the use of force by police.
