A barangay kagawad was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while he was talking on his cellphone in Sitio Inang Sayahin, Barangay Naga Cruz, Pitogo, Quezon.
The victim was identified as 48-year-old Jonard Alcantara Ariola, a resident and elected official (kagawad) of Barangay Naga Cruz.
According to authorities, the suspect suddenly appeared beside the victim’s house and opened fire, hitting Ariola multiple times. The gunman quickly fled the scene, taking the firearm with him.
Recovered at the crime scene were seven empty bullet shells and three deformed slugs.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify the perpetrator.
