MANILA — Bauan, Batangas Mayor Ryanh Dolor was detained at the House of Representatives on Thursday following his repeated failure to attend legislative hearings.

House Sergeant-at-Arms Napoleon Taas confirmed that Dolor was taken into custody upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from California shortly after midnight.

The mayor was cited in contempt last March for skipping hearings on the privatization of the Bauan Waterworks System (BWS). His office had submitted a travel authority signed by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, allowing him to be in the US from March 11 to 26 for medical reasons.

However, lawmakers questioned the absence of supporting medical records or a clear justification for his travel.

“Wala man lang medical records or anything like that to justify his absence,” Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores said in a previous hearing.

Upon his return, Dolor underwent a medical checkup before being transferred to the House detention facility.
