The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) central office has ordered the replacement of firetrucks that are 30 years old or older instead of repairing them.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Fire Senior Inspector Michael Lopez, Acting Chief of the Logistic Division of BFP Region 6, confirmed the directive to retire outdated firetrucks in favor of purchasing new ones.
Here is the current status of firetrucks in Western Visayas:
- Negros Occidental – 94 firetrucks, 11 unserviceable
- Aklan – 24 firetrucks, 6 unserviceable
- Iloilo – 97 firetrucks, 14 unserviceable
- Antique – 28 firetrucks, 4 unserviceable
- Capiz – 29 firetrucks, 1 unserviceable
- Guimaras – 7 firetrucks, 1 unserviceable
Despite some units being unserviceable, Lopez assured that the region still has sufficient firetrucks in every town and city.
Under the BFP Modernization Program, new firetrucks are purchased every year. For 2025, three new firetrucks have been allocated for Western Visayas.
