The Department of Health (DOH) reported that most victims of firecracker-related injuries are children as the New Year celebrations draw closer.

Out of the 69 cases recorded since December 22, 58 involve patients aged 19 and below.

One of the most severe incidents was reported by the Philippine Orthopedic Center where a 13-year-old girl lost her fingers after lighting a 5-Star firecracker last Wednesday.

Another alarming case occurred at Tondo Medical Center, where a 12-year-old boy suffered second-degree burns on his feet and legs because of “boga.”

Meanwhile, in Sarangani Province, a 13-year-old boy sustained an eye injury, also linked to the use of “boga.”

According to the latest DOH report, the top culprits behind firecracker-related injuries are “boga”, 5-Star, and piccolo.

The agency activated a “code white” alert on December 21, ensuring hospitals are prepared to handle firecracker-related emergencies as the New Year festivities approach.
