Beijing, China – China’s foreign ministry on Friday firmly denied accusations made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that Beijing has been supplying weapons and gunpowder to Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Speaking at a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian called the claims “groundless” and reiterated China’s stance of neutrality regarding the conflict.
“China’s position on the Ukrainian issue has always been clear,” Lin stated. “It has been actively committed to promoting a ceasefire and ending the conflict, as well as encouraging peace talks.”
The denial comes a day after Zelenskiy alleged that China was not only supplying weapons to Russia but also producing them on Russian soil. His remarks mark a sharp escalation in rhetoric, raising questions about Beijing’s role in the war that has now stretched into its third year.
Despite close economic ties with Moscow, China has repeatedly denied any involvement in the conflict and maintains it has not provided any lethal aid to either side.
“China has never made lethal weapons available to any party to the Ukraine crisis,” Lin emphasized, warning against “political manipulation” and unfounded allegations.
Lin also pointed to public statements by Ukrainian officials acknowledging that the majority of components found in Russian weapons originated from the United States and other Western countries.
The exchange highlights the growing geopolitical tensions as the war drags on, with both sides scrutinizing international involvement and support.
