Jealousy is being considered as the motive behind the fatal stabbing of a police officer by a construction worker in Barangay Pakiad, Oton, Iloilo, according to the Oton Municipal Police Station (MPS).

The victim was identified as Police Staff Sergeant Erwin Calubayan of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Iloilo and a resident of Barangay Balabag, Dumangas, Iloilo.

The suspect, known by his alias “Dan,” is a 40-year-old single construction worker from Barangay Siniba-an, Dingle, Iloilo.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Police Lt. Col. Abner Jordan, chief of the Oton Municipal Police Station, reported that Calubayan was drinking outside a store owned by a woman identified as “Alias Donna.”

The suspect, Dan, was also drinking nearby with a friend.

When Calubayan informed Alias Donna that he was leaving, the suspect allegedly attacked him suddenly with a knife.

In response, the police officer fired back at the suspect.

Calubayan sustained a stab wound to the right side of his abdomen and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect also suffered a gunshot wound and is currently under hospital arrest.

According to police investigations, both the victim and the suspect were reportedly courting Alias Donna, and this was the first time they had confronted each other.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
