The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 6 has identified priority towns and cities that will receive seeds and fertilizers to replace crops damaged by the recent eruption of Mount Kanlaon on Negros Island.

According to DA Western Visayas Regional Executive Director Dennis Arpia, farmers in the following areas of Negros Occidental will receive assistance: Bago City, La Carlota City, San Carlos City, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Murcia, and Pontevedra.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Arpia stated that the agency is coordinating with Municipal Agriculture Officers (MAOs) of each local government unit to conduct thorough assessments.

These evaluations aim to determine the types of crops affected, their growth stages, and the current soil condition to ensure that the replacement seeds match the farmers’ needs.

Once the evaluations are complete, the DA will finalize and distribute the necessary support to help farmers recover from the losses caused by the volcanic eruption.

The move is part of the government’s effort to ensure that agricultural productivity in Negros Occidental is restored as soon as possible.
