A group of Mindanao-based lawyers, led by Israelito Torreon, legal counsel for Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, and former LTFRB chief Martin Delgra, filed a petition before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, February 18, seeking to halt the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The petitioners argue that Congress committed grave abuse of discretion in impeaching Duterte, claiming the impeachment complaint is “defective” and legally questionable.

Among those who signed the petition are lawyers James Reserva and Hillary Olga Reserva, along with other Davao-based legal practitioners and Duterte supporters.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is expected to discuss a separate petition in its en banc session today, urging the court to compel the Senate to “immediately” begin the impeachment trial.

As the legal battle intensifies, Duterte’s supporters are challenging the validity of the impeachment process, while critics continue to push for accountability. The Supreme Court’s ruling on these petitions is expected to have a significant impact on the ongoing proceedings.
