A dermatologist is urging the public to take precautions against Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD).

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Dr. Rema Joy G. Cejar, a Fellow of the Philippine Dermatological Society, explained that the disease is caused by a virus.

HFMD is common among children under five years old, but teenagers and adults can also be infected. The disease often spreads during summer or hot weather.

The virus can be transmitted through close contact, such as kissing, holding hands, or sharing utensils with an infected person.

Symptoms of HFMD include fever, headaches, sore throat, colds, small sores in the throat or tonsils, and rashes on the hands, feet, and mouth.

Dr. Cejar advised individuals experiencing these symptoms to seek medical consultation immediately.
