Armand “Mondo” Duplantis once again proved his dominance in pole vaulting after setting a new meet record of 6.15 meters at the Diamond League meet in Oslo on Thursday.
The Swedish superstar cleared the height on his third attempt, solidifying his status as the undisputed king of the sport. Duplantis, who already holds the world record of 6.27 meters set in February, continues to raise the bar—both literally and figuratively—in 2024, following an Olympic gold medal and three world record-breaking performances this year alone.
“I am very satisfied,” Duplantis said after the event.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing day for Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena, who failed to clear the opening height of 5.62 meters. Obiena was eliminated early, along with Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen and Belgium’s Ben Broeders, who also struggled at the same mark.
As the competition progressed, Duplantis smoothly cleared 5.82 meters on his first attempt and later outdueled Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis. Eventually, he was the last man standing and sealed the victory with his 6.15-meter leap.
Duplantis now shifts his focus to the upcoming meet in Stockholm, where he aims to break his own world record once again.
