A 55-year-old father was fatally shot by his 17-year-old son in Barangay Malitbog Ilawod, Bingawan, Iloilo.

The victim, identified as “Arian,” was a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU). His son, referred to as “Toto,” is the only boy among four siblings.

According to Police Lieutenant Philip Girao, officer-in-charge of the Bingawan Municipal Police Station, the victim was fetching water when the incident happened.

The son reportedly shot his father in the lower back using a .38 caliber revolver which allegedly belonged to the victim. When the father faced him, the suspect fired again, hitting him in the chest.

After the incident, the suspect approached his mother, admitted to the shooting, and asked for forgiveness.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, the father was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators revealed that two days before the incident, the father allegedly scolded his son which may have caused the latter to harbor resentment.

The suspect is currently in the custody of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) in Bingawan for evaluation and further intervention.
