ILOILO CITY – Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has broken his silence following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, expressing gratitude to God while reflecting on the years of hardship his family endured.
In a statement, Mabilog emphasized that he takes no joy in the news but instead sees it as a moment for justice, healing, and reflection.
“For many years, my family and I have walked through trials and tears. My wife and children have endured so much, living in fear for our safety and future. My late mother carried this pain in her heart, and though she is no longer with us, I believe she is now at peace,” Mabilog stated.
He credited his faith and devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe for giving him strength during difficult times, highlighting how prayers carried him through the darkest moments of his life.
Mabilog also offered a prayer for the nation, calling for healing, justice, and the courage to move forward.
“I choose to let go of the past—to release every wound, every injustice, and every tear. I lift to God all the pain and suffering we have endured and open my heart to the new and beautiful things He is doing in our country,” he said.
The former mayor, who was among those accused of alleged drug links under Duterte’s administration, underscored the need for the country to embrace love and unity over division.
“To those who still live in fear but continue to hope for justice—hold on. God sees every tear, hears every cry, and His justice will always come in His perfect time,” he added.
Mabilog concluded his statement by calling for truth, justice, and peace to prevail in the Philippines, seeking the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe for continued guidance and protection.
