ILOILO CITY – Marking Earth Day 2025 with concrete action, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Iloilo joined forces with the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for a large-scale environmental effort along Sunset Boulevard, also known as Iloilo North Bank Road.

The event, held on April 22, featured tree-growing, mangrove planting, and a coastal cleanup—all aimed at advancing sustainability and raising awareness about climate resilience.

“This Earth Day, we go beyond awareness. We act,” said BFP Iloilo in a statement. “By taking part in these initiatives, we’re doing our part to protect our environment and inspire others to do the same.”

The activity produced impressive results:

  • 200 mangrove propagules planted to strengthen coastal defenses and marine biodiversity,
  • 962 trees cared for along pedestrian and cycling lanes, contributing to urban greenery,
  • and 300 kilograms of waste removed from the coastline, helping preserve marine life and maintain a cleaner environment.

The effort not only demonstrates BFP Iloilo’s dedication to fire prevention and public safety but also their growing role in environmental protection.

“This is just the beginning,” organizers said. “Environmental care is an everyday mission, not just a one-day event.”

The celebration highlights a shared vision for a greener Iloilo and a healthier planet, encouraging more sectors to step up and take part in the global call to protect Mother Earth.
