Heavy rainfall in parts of Myanmar last week has intensified concerns among authorities regarding their ongoing rescue operations, making it more challenging to locate victims of the recent earthquake.

According to aid agencies, the worsening weather conditions also pose a risk of spreading diseases like cholera among survivors, many of whom are homeless and forced to sleep outdoors.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the powerful earthquake that struck on March 28 has reached 3,471, with 4,671 people reported injured and 214 still missing.

United Nations aid chief, Tom Fletcher, has called for additional tents to support displaced families and shield them from the harsh weather conditions.

“Families sleeping outside the ruins of their homes while bodies of loved ones are pulled from rubble. Real fear of more quakes,” Fletcher shared on his social media.

Neighboring countries, including China, India, the Philippines, and other Southeast Asian nations, have continued to send assistance to the affected areas.

However, there are growing concerns about the lack of humanitarian support from the United States following cuts to its foreign aid program.

In Thailand, the death toll has reached 24, including 17 victims who died in the collapse of a high-rise building in Bangkok.
