The House prosecution team asserts that the Supreme Court should not interfere in the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte.

This statement comes after a petition was filed before the Supreme Court by lawyers from Mindanao seeking to halt the impeachment proceedings against Duterte.

The petition was led by Atty. Israelito Torreon, legal counsel of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, along with former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Atty. Martin Delgra III. Other signatories include Atty. James Reserva, Atty. Hillary Olga Reserva, and several other lawyers and Duterte supporters from Davao.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, House Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo 3rd District Representative Lorenz Defensor stated that the 11-member prosecution team of the House remains unfazed by the petition and is continuing preparations for the impeachment trial.

Defensor, who is also one of the prosecutors, emphasized that the impeachment process is legal and falls within constitutional bounds.

He stressed that the decision on the impeachment of the vice president should rest with the public and Congress.

Furthermore, Defensor expressed full confidence in the validity of the impeachment process, asserting that impeachment is a congressional function, even as they welcome judicial review.
