𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 – The Chinese community in Iloilo City is set to hold a grand celebration of the Chinese New Year this afternoon at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand.
While the official date of the Chinese New Year was on January 29, the city will commemorate the event today with colorful performances, cultural presentations, and festive activities. This year’s celebration, under the theme “Providence: A Celebration of Grace, Gratitude, and Growth,” marks the Year of the Wooden Snake and aims to bring together the community in a spirit of unity and thanksgiving.
Exciting Festivities Await
According to Mr. Rito Carlos ‘Judgee’ Peña, Chairman of the Iloilo Festivals Foundation, Inc., one of the major highlights of the event will be the Dragon Dance, along with other cultural performances. A food festival featuring authentic Chinese cuisine will also be available for attendees to enjoy.
The event is expected to draw a large crowd, making it one of the most anticipated celebrations in the city.
Road Closures and Traffic Advisory
With the celebration comes expected moderate to heavy traffic in Iloilo City’s downtown area.
Ret. Police Col. Uldarico Garbanzos, head of the Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit, has announced that several roads will be temporarily closed starting at 12:00 noon to allow for preparations for the Chinese New Year Parade, which starts at 4:00 PM.
The parade route will pass through key streets, starting from Aldeguer Street, then proceeding through J. De Leon St., Fermin Caram Street, Iznart Street (Filipino-Chinese Friendship Arc), JM Basa Street, and M. Peralta Street, before reaching the Freedom Grandstand. The parade will then continue towards Ortiz Street and Calasanz Street, where participants will disperse.
Motorists are urged to follow traffic rules and regulations to help minimize congestion during the event.
