In a move promoting transparency and better public service, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. has decided to transfer his ₱20 million intelligence fund to the donations budget, according to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

The announcement was confirmed by Iloilo 4th District Board Member Domingo Oso Jr., Chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations.

During an interview with Bombo Radyo, Oso revealed that Governor Defensor previously requested the transfer of the intelligence fund, which is part of the executive budget, to a more transparent donations fund.

The intelligence fund, typically used for peace and order initiatives, operates with less stringent documentation requirements.

By moving these funds to donations, beneficiaries will be required to submit specific documents and meet stricter guidelines to access assistance.

The transfer aligns with Governor Defensor’s commitment to transparency and effective allocation of public resources. The move also ensures that assistance reaches those who need it most, with proper accountability measures in place.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the 2025 provincial budget on December 17, which allocates ₱4.85 billion for the General Fund and ₱1.13 billion for Local Economic Enterprises.
