The Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island continues to show signs of unrest, with two ash emissions lasting up to six minutes, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported on Tuesday.
In the past day, 10 volcanic earthquakes, including two tremors, were detected, while the volcano’s edifice remains inflated, indicating ongoing magmatic activity.
On February 3, Kanlaon released 3,186 tons of sulfur dioxide and generated a 400-meter-high plume drifting southwest.
Alert Level 3 remains in effect due to magmatic unrest following its December 9, 2024, eruption.
Authorities urge residents to evacuate from the six-kilometer danger zone amid risks of explosive eruptions, lava flows, ashfall, pyroclastic density currents, rockfalls, and lahar flows during heavy rains.
