The executive clemency granted by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. did not cover the subsequent decisions in other cases faced by former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Atty. Noel Palomado, a Bombo lawyer, explained that the executive clemency given to Mabilog is only related to the decision from the Office of the Ombudsman concerning “dishonesty” regarding his alleged hidden wealth filed by former Iloilo Provincial Administrator Manuel “Boy” Mejorada.
According to Palomado, the granting of executive clemency to Mabilog was based on his good leadership, the awards he received, and the recognition Iloilo City earned under his administration.
Because of the executive clemency, Mabilog is now eligible to run for any government position.
However, despite this, Mabilog still faces a graft case at the Sandiganbayan filed against him by former Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava II through the Office of the Ombudsman in 2023.
This case relates to their involvement in awarding a government contract to a firm believed to be connected to them.
In September, Mabilog posted bail in relation to this graft case.
Whatever the decision may be, the lawyer clarified that it is no longer covered by the executive clemency.
