A man accused of raping his stepdaughter attempted to shoot himself in the forehead as authorities arrived to arrest him in Cebu.

However, instead of ending his life, the suspect was left with a severe headache when the bullet failed to penetrate his skull.

Operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation – Central Visayas Regional Office (NBI-CEVRO) arrested the 27-year-old suspect in Naga City, Cebu.

The arrest was made following a complaint from his 16-year-old stepdaughter, who claimed that she had been abused by him since she was 14 years old.

As authorities attempted to apprehend him, the suspect managed to escape temporarily, ran to his house, retrieved a .22 caliber firearm, and shot himself in the forehead.

However, the bullet did not penetrate his skull and remained lodged in his forehead, causing only a superficial wound.

Authorities immediately arrested him and brought him to the hospital for medical treatment and removal of the bullet.

According to NBI National Director Jaime Santiago, the suspect confessed to both his crimes against his stepdaughter and his failed suicide attempt.

“He admitted that he tried to commit suicide. He shot himself using a .22 caliber gun, possibly a homemade firearm. Fortunately, the bullet did not penetrate his skull,” Santiago stated.

The NBI has assured that the suspect will be provided with legal counsel for his extra-judicial confession regarding his crimes.

Authorities carried out the arrest after the 16-year-old girl confided in her grandfather about the abuse she had endured from her stepfather since she was 14 years old while her mother was away.

The suspect is now facing the appropriate legal charges.
