A man is in critical condition after being doused with gasoline and set on fire by a neighbor who was reportedly jealous of him in Barangay Pitogo, Taguig City.

The 28-year-old victim sustained third-degree burns across his body.

According to the Taguig City Police, another woman, who was doing laundry nearby, was also injured during the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim was using his cellphone when the suspect approached, poured gasoline on him, and lit him on fire using a lighter. The suspect fled the scene immediately.

The victim’s mother said the suspect had long been jealous of her son, and had previously confronted and even assaulted him at his workplace.

Barangay Chairman Ives Ebrada confirmed that this was not the first confrontation between the two. The suspect had earlier apologized to the victim after a prior dispute.

A Barangay Protection Order (BPO) had also been issued against the suspect for allegedly physically, verbally, and psychologically abusing his wife.
