𝗜𝗟𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗢 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 – Mayor Jerry Treñas has spoken out against the use of foul language during Juan Karlos Labajo’s recent concert in Mandurriao, part of the Dinagyang Festival.
The incident occurred when Labajo asked the audience to translate the phrase “Putang-ina” from his song “Ere,” to which the crowd responded with “Yudiputa.”
In a statement, Mayor Treñas emphasized the importance of mindful messaging, particularly during significant cultural events such as the Dinagyang Festival.
“While we value creativity and self-expression, we must also be mindful of the messages we share, especially during important celebrations like Dinagyang Festival,” Treñas remarked.
He further urged event organizers to be more careful when selecting artists for future performances.
“I ask the organizers to be more circumspect next time in choosing artists who can bring positivity and promote good values in their performances,” he added.
The mayor also issued a reminder to all artists performing in Iloilo City, calling on them to respect the city’s culture, values, and traditions.
“This also serves as a reminder to all artists performing in Iloilo City to be respectful of our culture, values, and traditions,” Treñas concluded.
The mayor’s comments have sparked mixed reactions from netizens, some of whom supported his call for respect and positivity in performances.
However, others pointed out that Mayor Treñas himself has been known to use the term “Yudiputa” in past public appearances, questioning the consistency of his stance.
As the debate continues, many are calling for a more balanced approach to addressing language and behavior in public spaces, particularly during events that celebrate local culture and traditions.
