Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas has denied any involvement in the case filed by former Iloilo City Councilor Plaridel Nava against Iloilo City Lone District Representative Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda over alleged “unexplained wealth” at the Office of the Ombudsman Regional Office VI.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Treñas stated that Nava’s decision to file the case against Baronda was entirely his own.
According to Treñas, despite Nava’s support for his daughter, mayoralty candidate Raisa Treñas, he has no connection to the actions taken by the former councilor.
The mayor also pointed out that it is common for political candidates to face cases before the Office of the Ombudsman, especially when there are questions about their wealth or governance.
Furthermore, Treñas dismissed allegations that he instructed Nava to file the case to ensure his daughter’s victory, saying he is confident in her chances of winning.
Nava has raised concerns over how Baronda could afford to acquire luxury items, a condominium, vehicles, a housing unit, and other expensive assets.
He also noted that before becoming a congresswoman, Baronda was merely a contractual employee of Senator JV Ejercito, earning a monthly salary of P15,000.
