Manila, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed today that a Manila court has issued a commitment order directing the transfer of former Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. to the Manila City Jail.
This was announced by NBI Director Retired Judge Jaime B. Santiago during a press briefing held earlier today. At present, Teves remains under the custody of the NBI following his deportation from Timor-Leste.
“Now, one court in Manila has already issued a commitment order directing us to commit the person of Congressman Teves to the Manila City Jail,” Santiago stated.
However, Santiago noted that several courts in Manila are handling different cases involving the former lawmaker. As a result, he temporarily put the commitment order on hold to avoid conflicting judicial directives.
The NBI is currently awaiting the decision on a motion filed by Teves’ legal camp seeking the consolidation of the various cases against him. Santiago said this ruling will help determine the appropriate detention facility for the former congressman.
In the meantime, the NBI chief instructed the warden of the specified detention facility to delay the transfer until a final resolution is reached.
Alongside these developments, Santiago also announced that Teves is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow at 8:00 AM before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 12.
