The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Region 6 is ready to assist in the event of a potential mass deportation of undocumented Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the United States.
This preparation comes after the executive order issued by U.S. President Donald Trump, which mandates stricter immigration policies.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Mr. James Mendiola, the Regional Director of OWWA Region 6, expressed that they are fully prepared, in coordination with their central office, to support the expected mass deportation.
Mendiola stated that once the deportations take place, they are ready to provide assistance to the affected OFWs. The Philippine government, he mentioned, would cover the cost of their meals and airfare for their return to the Philippines.
In addition, OWWA will offer free accommodation to the deported OFWs. Other government agencies such as the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and others are also expected to assist in this effort.
According to the Filipino Migrant Center (FMC), a non-profit organization, one out of every four Filipinos in the United States is undocumented.
