The Philippines has expressed its full and unwavering support for a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The resolution was overwhelmingly approved by the UN General Assembly, with 149 countries voting in favor, 12 against, and 12 abstentions. Among those who voted against the measure were the United States, Argentina, Hungary, Paraguay, and Israel, which continues to conduct military operations in Gaza, believed to be a stronghold of the militant group Hamas.
The adopted resolution strongly condemns the use of starvation of civilians as a method of warfare and decries the unjustified denial of humanitarian access to Gaza.
The General Assembly reaffirmed that under international law, Israel is obligated to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to all civilians in need in Gaza. It demanded the immediate and sustained opening of safe and unimpeded humanitarian corridors to allow the entry of goods across the region.
The resolution also reiterated its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages still held by Hamas and other groups.
