Pope Francis visited inmates at the Regina Coeli prison in Rome, engaging with several prisoners during his visit. The 88-year-old Argentine pontiff spoke with the inmates and even gifted them rosaries and pocket-sized gospels.

During the interaction, Pope Francis shared that he had a tradition of visiting a prison facility every Holy Thursday to wash the feet of the inmates, following the example of Jesus. However, due to his health condition, he was unable to carry out this tradition this year. Instead, the Pope prayed for the inmates.

The visit lasted for more than an hour, despite medical advice urging the Pope to avoid crowded places. This visit comes over a month after Pope Francis was hospitalized for a serious case of double pneumonia.

The Pope’s act of compassion and solidarity was warmly received by the prisoners, further reflecting his commitment to showing care and attention to the most marginalized.
