President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is poised to sign the P6.352-trillion national budget for 2025 on December 30, following a thorough review process. Acting Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Cesar Chavez, confirmed that the signing will occur after the Rizal Day program in Manila.

Although originally planned for December 20, the signing was postponed ensuring the budget received an exhaustive review. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin clarified that consultations with key department heads were necessary.

The President is confident the budget will be finalized before the year ends. If not, the previous year’s budget will automatically be reenacted, in line with the 1987 Constitution.

The revised budget includes notable adjustments, such as a reduced P10 billion for the Department of Education and a P26 billion allocation for the Ayuda para sa Kapos and Kita Program. Additionally, Marcos has the power to exercise a “line-item veto” on specific provisions, rejecting items without affecting the rest of the bill.
