Russian President Vladimir Putin held separate phone calls with the leaders of Iran and Israel on Friday, emphasizing diplomacy and condemning actions that violate international norms.
In a statement released by the Kremlin, Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Moscow “condemns the actions of Israel taken in violation of the U.N. Charter” and offered condolences to those killed in the recent hostilities.
During his call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Putin stressed that “all issues concerning Iran’s nuclear program must be resolved strictly through political and diplomatic means.” He called for a resumption of talks and a de-escalation of tensions.
The Kremlin affirmed that Russia remains committed to maintaining close communication with both Tehran and Tel Aviv, signaling its intention to play a stabilizing role in the region.
The calls come amid heightened tensions following recent exchanges between Israel and Iran, raising international concern over a possible wider conflict and the future of the Iran nuclear deal.
