The Senate is pushing forward with its preparations for the impending impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, Senate Spokesperson Arnel Bañas confirmed.

According to Bañas, the reading of the articles of impeachment is scheduled for June 2, while the formal oath-taking of the senators, marking the start of the trial, will take place on June 3.

He clarified that only senators from the 19th Congress will take their oaths on June 3 in preparation for the proceedings.

“Now that the matter is in the hands of the Senate, any decision to halt the process will be up to the upper chamber of Congress,” Bañas explained.

As of now, Bañas said he has not received any instruction to suspend or cancel the upcoming trial against the Vice President.

The Senate spokesperson also confirmed that the House prosecution panel will personally deliver and read the articles of impeachment before the Senate.

Bañas assured the public that the impeachment trial will not disrupt the legislative duties of the senators, noting that the proceedings are set to take place in the morning, while regular sessions of both chambers of Congress will continue in the afternoon.
