Manila, Philippines – Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday announced her withdrawal from Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, the administration slate of her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“I cannot stand on the same campaign platform as the rest of the Alyansa. As I have stated from the outset of the election period, I will continue to maintain my independence,” Marcos said.
Her decision follows the controversial Senate hearing on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, where she claimed there was “a deliberate effort to obscure the truth.”
“Over and above political advantage, the sovereignty of the country and the interest of true justice for every Filipino must remain paramount,” she added.
Marcos’ withdrawal raises questions about unity within the administration slate and its implications for the upcoming elections.
