The Iloilo City Government has intensified security measures and installed additional lighting at Esplanade 3, particularly near the Garden of Love, in response to recent reports of inappropriate activities occurring in dimly lit areas.
Mayor Jerry Treñas, in an interview with Bombo Radyo, stated that the city aims to maintain the safety and comfort of the public by ensuring better lighting and deploying more green guards to patrol the vicinity.
The move comes after incidents of indecent behavior were reported in the poorly illuminated and secluded portions of the Esplanade.
This initiative follows a recent incident where a street sweeper caught two male individuals engaging in a sexual act in the area.
The incident highlighted the need for increased vigilance and improved infrastructure to prevent similar occurrences.
To address these concerns, additional lights have been installed to eliminate dark spots, and more green guards have been tasked with monitoring the area to deter any untoward activities.
Mayor Treñas emphasized the city’s commitment to ensuring that public spaces remain safe and family-friendly.
The enhanced security measures are part of a broader effort to maintain cleanliness, order, and security in the city’s popular recreational areas.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to authorities to help maintain the integrity and safety of the Esplanade.
