The Office of the LGBT Affairs of the Iloilo City Government has issued a reminder to the public regarding responsible behavior in public spaces, following recent incidents involving alleged sexual activities at Esplanade 3.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Gab Umadhay, head of the Office of the LGBT Affairs, stressed the importance of understanding boundaries and the appropriate setting for any form of intimacy.

He acknowledged that while the office supports sex positivity and advocates for LGBTQ+ rights, they strongly condemn immoral acts, particularly those conducted in public areas.

Umadhay pointed out that engaging in such activities in public not only breaches social norms but also poses health risks due to potential exposure to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) from unsafe sex practices.

He emphasized that the office is committed to promoting health and safety within the community.

To support safe practices, Umadhay mentioned that the Office of the LGBT Affairs is willing to provide free condoms.

However, he underscored the importance of engaging in intimate activities in private spaces to maintain respect for the community and the general public.

This reminder follows an incident where a street sweeper caught two men engaged in a sexual act at the Esplanade, prompting increased security and lighting in the area by the city government.

The Office of the LGBT Affairs continues to advocate for responsible behavior, privacy, and health-conscious practices, encouraging everyone to help maintain the dignity and safety of public spaces.
