CHICAGO – A Southwest Airlines flight arriving at Chicago Midway Airport on Tuesday morning had to perform a precautionary go-around to avoid a potential collision with a business jet, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Flight 2504, arriving from Omaha, was on final approach when air traffic controllers instructed a business jet to hold short and not cross the runway. However, the jet failed to follow the directive, prompting the Southwest aircraft to abort its landing as a safety measure.

“The business jet did not comply with instructions to hold short,” an FAA spokesperson said, adding that the two planes came as close as 0.49 miles apart before the Southwest aircraft circled back and landed safely.

Southwest Airlines emphasized its commitment to safety, stating, “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”

No injuries were reported, and the FAA is investigating the incident.
