A woman in the U.S. reportedly suffered a serious sinus infection after her boyfriend accidentally passed gas directly on her face while they were lying in bed.

Christine Connell, who shared her experience publicly, said the incident happened back in 2016. At the time, she and her boyfriend laughed it off as a harmless joke. However, a few days later, she began experiencing symptoms such as nasal congestion, headaches, runny nose, and fever.

As the symptoms worsened over the years, Christine sought medical attention. Doctors eventually discovered that her sinuses were infected with Escherichia coli (E. coli), a type of bacteria commonly found in the intestines — not in the nasal cavity.

Experts believe the bacteria may have entered her system due to a weakened immune system at the time of exposure. Despite trying several medications, the infection kept recurring.

Because of the persistent infection, doctors considered surgical intervention to remove the infected sinus tissue.

Christine now warns others not to ignore early symptoms of infection and to seek medical attention promptly. She also offered a rather unexpected piece of advice: avoid passing gas on others, as it may lead to unforeseen health issues.
