ILOILO CITY — A 65-year-old traffic auxiliary from La Paz, Iloilo City, passed away while on duty due to the extreme heat index currently affecting the city.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Retired Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, head of the Iloilo City Traffic and Transportation Management Office (TTMO), confirmed the incident and identified the victim as a long-time traffic personnel who had been in service for 37 years.
According to Garbanzos, the auxiliary, who was under maintenance medication, suddenly felt unwell while performing his duties on the street.
In response, the Iloilo City Government and the TTMO assured financial assistance to the family of the deceased. The agency also reminded all personnel to take necessary precautions against the heat, including staying in shaded areas and drinking plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as the heat index remains dangerously high in the region.
