ILOILO CITY – Mayor Jerry Treñas refuted allegations made by former Iloilo City Councilor Atty. R. Leone “Boots” Gerochi that the city was left with no funds and had significant debts when Treñas ended his term in 2010.

Treñas, who completed his tenure as mayor on June 30, 2010, was succeeded by former Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog on July 1 of the same year.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Treñas dismissed the claims as baseless, arguing that it would have been impossible for the city’s funds to be depleted, as salaries for city councilors and other expenses continued to be disbursed under the Mabilog administration.

At the time, Gerochi was still serving as a city councilor, further contradicting his claims, according to Treñas.

The mayor also clarified that city funds cannot be accessed without valid appropriations and that he was not the one who signed financial disbursements. Instead, the responsibility fell on the City Administrator and City Treasurer.
